The Manifestation of Viṣṇu’s Footprints: Vāmana–Trivikrama, Bāṣkali’s Subjugation, and the Rise of Viṣṇupadī

वासुदेव उवाच । भवतो वरदानेन अवध्यः स तु सांप्रतम् । बुद्धिसाध्यः स वै कार्यो बंधनादिह दानवः
vāsudeva uvāca | bhavato varadānena avadhyaḥ sa tu sāṃpratam | buddhisādhyaḥ sa vai kāryo baṃdhanādiha dānavaḥ
Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa)
Concept: When direct violence is barred by boons or dharmic constraints, righteous strategy (buddhi) and restraint (bandhana/containment) become the proper means.
Application: If a problem cannot be ‘defeated’ head-on, redesign the approach: limit harm, bind the situation with rules, and use patience and planning.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: वरदानेन = vara + dānena; बुद्धिसाध्यः = buddhi + sādhyaḥ; बंधनादिह = bandhanāt + iha.
It teaches that when direct force is ineffective (due to a boon of invulnerability), one should use buddhi—careful strategy—such as restraint or capture, rather than futile violence.
Purāṇic narratives often show that boons can block straightforward killing; resolution then comes through conditions, loopholes, or alternative measures like binding, exile, or neutralization.
It implies responsible problem-solving: choose proportionate, intelligent means (e.g., restraint) when aggression is impossible or would cause greater harm.
