Narada (narrating within a didactic puranic episode; dialogue context traditionally framed with Sanatkumara inquiry)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shringara
Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa
It illustrates how kāma (sensual attachment) produces moha (delusion) so strong that one loses discernment of time itself—an implicit warning that unchecked pleasure erodes dharma and obstructs mokṣa-oriented living.
By contrasting infatuation with a fleeting object of desire against the steadiness required for bhakti, the verse indirectly teaches that devotion to Viṣṇu demands recollection, discipline, and freedom from time-consuming obsession.
The verse references calendrical units—day, night, month, pakṣa, and year—echoing Jyotiṣa Vedāṅga (Vedic time-reckoning). It implies that indulgence can make one negligent of vrata timings and ritual observances governed by the calendar.
