Mohinī’s Speech
Mohinyāḥ Bhāṣaṇam
नहीदृशं व्रतं लोके फलदायि प्रदृश्यते । सद्यः प्रत्ययकारीदं महापातकनाशनम् ॥ ९ ॥
nahīdṛśaṃ vrataṃ loke phaladāyi pradṛśyate | sadyaḥ pratyayakārīdaṃ mahāpātakanāśanam || 9 ||
Sanatkumara (in dialogue with Narada)
Vrata: unspecified (referred to as ‘this vow’)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It proclaims the exceptional power of a particular vrata: it is described as uniquely fruit-giving, quickly effective, and capable of erasing even major sins—highlighting vrata as a direct spiritual remedy (prayāścitta) and accelerator of merit.
By praising the vow’s swift, visible fruit and its purifying force, the verse supports the bhakti-oriented idea that sincere observance (with faith and discipline) transforms the devotee quickly, removing obstacles caused by sin and making devotion steady.
The verse emphasizes ritual discipline (vrata-vidhi) and the doctrine of karmic purification (prayāścitta). While no specific Vedanga (like Jyotiṣa or Vyākaraṇa) is named, it aligns with Kalpa-type procedural knowledge—how observances are regarded as efficacious within dharma practice.
