Adhyaya 18 — Arjuna Declines the Throne; Garga Directs Him to Dattatreya; The Gods Defeat the Daityas through Dattatreya’s Vision and the Movement of Lakshmi

Sanskrit

भुवः पालनसामर्थ्ययुक्त एको महीपतिः ।

पृथिव्यां शस्त्रधृङ्मान्यस्त्वहमेवर्धिसंयुतः ।

ततो भविष्ये नात्मानं करिष्ये पापभागिनम् ॥

Transliteration

bhuvaḥ pālanasāmarthya-yukta eko mahīpatiḥ | pṛthivyāṃ śastradhṛṅ-mānyas tv aham evardhi-saṃyutaḥ | tato bhaviṣye nātmānaṃ kariṣye pāpa-bhāginam ||

Translation

(అతడు ఆలోచించాడు)—భూమిపై లోకాన్ని రక్షించగల సామర్థ్యమున్న ఒకే ఒక సార్వభౌముడు ఉండాలి. నేను ఆయుధధారులలో గౌరవింపబడినవాడిని, బలం మరియు సంపద కలవాడిని. కాబట్టి నేనే ఆ పాలకుడనై, పాపంలో భాగస్వామిని కాను।
