Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined concealment and endurance as aspects of dharma: the Pāṇḍavas accept hardship and an unremarkable appearance to uphold their vow of incognito living, avoiding premature confrontation and protecting the larger moral order until the rightful time for action.

The Pāṇḍavas, armed yet deliberately unrecognizable—pale, unkempt, and bearded—reach a settled region after leaving the forest. At this point Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā) addresses the king, Yudhiṣṭhira, as they proceed with their plan to enter and reside in the Matsya realm without being identified.
