Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 12 — Concealed Service in Matsya and Bhīma’s Arena Victory

(मातलिरिव देवपतेर्दशरथनृपते: सुमन्त्र इव यन्ता । सुमह इव जामदग्नेस्तथैव तव शिक्षयाम्यश्चान्‌ ।। युधिष्ठिरस्य राजेन्द्र नरराजस्य शासनात्‌ | शतसाहस्रकोटीनामश्चानामस्मि रक्षिता ।।) जैसे देवराज इन्द्रके सारथि मातलि हैं, जैसे राजा दशरथके रथचालक सुमन्त्र हैं और जैसे जमदग्निनन्दन परशुरामके सूत सुमह हैं, उसी प्रकार मैं आपका सारथि होकर आपके घोड़ोंको शिक्षा दूँगा। राजेन्द्र! मैं महाराज युधिष्ठिरके आदेशसे उनके यहाँ लक्षकोटि अश्वोंका संरक्षक रहा हूँ। विराट उवाच यदस्ति किंचिन्मम वाजिवाहनं तदस्तु सर्व त्वदधीनमद्य वै । ये चापि केचिन्मम वाजियोजका- स्त्वदाश्रया: सारथयश्न सन्तु मे,विराटने कहा-ग्रन्थिक! मेरे पास जो भी घोड़े और अन्य वाहन हैं, वे सब आजसे ही तुम्हारे अधीन हो जायँ। इसके सिवा जो कोई भी मेरे घोड़ोंको जोतनेवाले सारथि हैं, वे सब तुम्हारे अधिकारमें इदं रहें

virāṭa uvāca |

mātalir iva devapater daśarathanṛpateḥ sumantra iva yantā |

sumaha iva jāmadagnes tathaiva tava śikṣayāmy aśvān ||

yudhiṣṭhirasya rājendra nararājasya śāsanāt |

śatasāhasrakoṭīnām aśvānām asmi rakṣitā ||

yad asti kiñcin mama vājivāhanaṃ tad astu sarvaṃ tvad-adhīnam adya vai |

ye cāpi kecin mama vājiyojakās tvad-āśrayāḥ sārathayaś ca santu me ||

నకులుడు పలికెను—దేవాధిపతి ఇంద్రుని సారథి మాతలి వలె, దశరథ మహారాజు రథసారథి సుమంత్రుని వలె, జమదగ్నినందన పరశురాముని సారథి సుమహ వలె—అదేవిధంగా నేను నీ సారథిగా ఉండి నీ అశ్వాలకు శిక్షణ ఇస్తాను. రాజేంద్రా! నరాధిపుడైన యుధిష్ఠిరుని ఆజ్ఞచేత నేను అక్కడ శతసహస్ర-కోటుల అశ్వాలకు రక్షకుడనై ఉన్నాను. విరాటుడు పలికెను—గ్రంథికా! నా వద్ద ఉన్న అశ్వాలు, వాహనాలు అన్నీ ఈ రోజునుంచి నీ అధీనంలో ఉండుగాక. అలాగే నా అశ్వాలను జూదే సారథులు, సేవకులు అందరూ నీ ఆశ్రయమున ఉండుగాక.
