Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that inner purification—abandoning arrogance (darpa), hypocrisy (dambha), and conceit (māna)—is essential for attaining śreyas (the highest good). Reverent service to a worthy brāhmaṇa is presented as a dharmic means to spiritual welfare.

Vaiśampāyana addresses Pṛthā (Kuntī), advising her to renounce prideful traits and to propitiate a boon-giving brāhmaṇa. The statement frames her future well-being as dependent on humility and proper reverence toward a spiritually potent figure.
