अध्याय ३० — क्रोधदोषाः क्षमाप्रशंसा च

Defects of Anger and the Praise of Forbearance

सूतमें पिरोयी हुई मणि, नाकमें नथे हुए बैल और किनारेसे टूटकर धाराके बीचमें गिरे हुए वृक्षकी भाँति यह जीव सदा ईश्वरके आदेशका ही अनुसरण करता है; क्योंकि वह उसीसे व्याप्त और उसीके अधीन है। यह मनुष्य स्वाधीन होकर समयको नहीं बिताता ।। अज्ञो जन्तुरनीशोडयमात्मन: सुखदुःखयो: । ईश्वरप्रेरितो गच्छेत्‌ स्वर्ग नरकमेव च,यह जीव अज्ञानी तथा अपने सुख-दुःखके विधानमें भी असमर्थ है। यह ईश्वरसे प्रेरित होकर ही स्वर्ग एवं नरकमें जाता है

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | ajño jantur anīśo ’yam ātmanaḥ sukha-duḥkhayoḥ | īśvara-prerito gacchet svarga-narakam eva ca ||

యుధిష్ఠిరుడు అన్నాడు— ఈ జీవుడు అజ్ఞాని; తన సుఖదుఃఖాల నియమంలో కూడా అసమర్థుడు, పరాధీనుడు. ఈశ్వర ప్రేరణతోనే అతడు స్వర్గానికైనా నరకానికైనా చేరుతాడు।
