Adhyāya 290: Kuntī’s Mantra-Parīkṣā and the Appearance of Sūrya (कुन्ती–सूर्यसंवादः)
जघानेन्द्रजित: पार्थ रथं साश्वं ससारथिम् । युधिष्ठिर! अंगदके द्वारा इन्द्रजित॒के वधके लिये रोषपूर्वक चलाये हुए उस वृक्षने उसके सारथि और घोड़ोंसहित रथको नष्ट कर दिया
jaghānendrajitḥ pārtha rathaṃ sāśvaṃ sasārathim |
మార్కండేయుడు పలికెను—ఓ పార్థా! ఇంద్రజిత్తు సారథి, అశ్వాలతో కూడిన రథాన్ని ధ్వంసం చేశాడు.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical strain of warfare: in anger and contest, destruction extends beyond the combatant to the instruments and dependents (chariot, horses, charioteer), reminding the listener that martial action, even when ‘necessary,’ carries widening harm and moral weight.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates a battle moment: Indrajit delivers a decisive blow that destroys a chariot along with its horses and charioteer, marking a sharp escalation in the fight.
