तयो: समभवद् युद्ध सुमहज्जयगृद्धिनो: । दिव्यास्त्रविदुषोस्तीव्रमन्योन्यस्पर्धिनोस्तदा,वे दोनों ही विजयकी अभिलाषा रखनेवाले, दिव्यास्त्रोंके ज्ञाता तथा परस्पर बड़ी स्पर्धा रखनेवाले थे। उन दोनोंमें उस समय बड़ा भारी युद्ध हुआ
tayoḥ samabhavad yuddhaṃ sumahaj jayagṛddhinoḥ | divyāstraviduṣos tīvram anyonyaspardhinoḥ tadā ||
మార్కండేయుడు పలికెను—అప్పుడు ఆ ఇద్దరి మధ్య—విజయాకాంక్షతో ఉవ్విళ్లూరుతూ, దివ్యాస్త్రవిద్యలో నిపుణులై, పరస్పరం తీవ్రమైన పోటీ కలవారై—అత్యంత ఘోరమైన మహాయుద్ధం చెలరేగెను।
