एकवेदस्य चाज्ञानाद् वेदास्ते बहव: कृता: । सत्त्वस्य चेह विश्रंशात् सत्ये कश्चिदवस्थित:,द्वापरमें सम्पूर्ण एक वेदका भी ज्ञान न होनेसे वेदके बहुत-से विभाग कर लिये गये हैं। इस युगमें सात्त्विक बुद्धिका क्षय होनेसे कोई विरला ही सत्यमें स्थित होता है
ekavedasya cājñānād vedās te bahavaḥ kṛtāḥ | sattvasya ceha viśraṃśāt satye kaścid avasthitaḥ ||
ఒకే వేదాన్ని సమ్యక్గా గ్రహించలేకపోవడం వల్ల అది అనేక వేదాలుగా విభజించబడింది. అలాగే ఈ యుగంలో సత్త్వం క్షీణించడంతో సత్యంలో స్థిరంగా నిలిచేవాడు అరుదుగా మాత్రమే ఉంటాడు.
