Āraṇyaka-parva, Adhyāya 1 — The Pandavas’ Exit from Gajasāhvaya and the Citizens’ Lament (जनमेजयप्रश्नः; पाण्डवानां वनप्रस्थानम्)

पौरा ऊचु. नेदमस्ति कुलं सर्व न वयं न च नो गृहा:,पुरवासी बोले--अहो! हमारा यह समस्त कुल, हम तथा हमारे घर-द्वार अब सुरक्षित नहीं हैं; क्योंकि यहाँ पापात्मा दुर्योधन सुबलपुत्र शकुनिसे पालित हो कर्ण और दुःशासनकी सम्मतिसे इस राज्यका शासन करना चाहता है

paurā ūcuḥ | nedam asti kulaṃ sarvaṃ na vayaṃ na ca no gṛhāḥ | yato 'tra pāpātmā duryodhanaḥ subalaputra-śakunipālitaḥ karṇa-duḥśāsana-sammatyā asya rājyasya śāsanaṃ kartum icchati |

పౌరులు అన్నారు—ఇప్పుడు మా సమస్త వంశమూ, మేమూ, మా ఇళ్లూ కూడా సురక్షితంగా లేవు; ఎందుకంటే ఇక్కడ పాపాత్ముడైన దుర్యోధనుడు, సుబలపుత్రుడు శకుని పోషణ-ప్రేరణతో, కర్ణుడు మరియు దుశ్శాసనుడి సమ్మతితో ఈ రాజ్యాన్ని పాలించదలచాడు।
