Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma expressed as appropriate honor: sages are to be revered for spiritual authority, and divine officials are to be respected according to their role—ethical conduct is shown through fitting hospitality and recognition of merit and office.

In the setting described by Kaṇva, Nārada arrives and is received with honors suitable for a divine seer, while Mātali is welcomed with the same reverence one would show Indra, indicating a formal and highly respectful reception.
