Bhīṣma’s Retrospective of the Jāmadagnya Rāma Encounter

Divyāstra-Pratiyuddha and Twilight Cessation

tato ravir mandamarīcimaṇḍalo jagāmāstaṃ pāṃsupuñjāvagūḍhaḥ | niśā vyagāhat sukhaśītamārutā tato yuddhaṃ pratyavahārayāvaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Even in a righteous conflict, discipline and restraint govern action: sages can curb destructive wrath, and combat is suspended with nightfall—signaling that dharma limits violence and demands self-control.

As the battlefield dust veils the sun and evening arrives, night and a cool breeze set in; Bhīṣma says that he and Paraśurāma then stop fighting for the time being.
