Educational Q&A

The verse highlights atithi-dharma (the duty of hospitality): welcoming a guest with respectful reception—greetings, welfare-inquiry, offering a seat, and water—is an ethical obligation upheld even by ascetics.

Bhīṣma narrates that a group of ascetics receive and honor King Samatānūpa, performing customary guest-courtesies such as welcome, asking after his well-being, offering a seat, and providing water.
