Kuntī–Karṇa Saṃvāda: Lineage Disclosure and Appeal to Fraternal Dharma

चिन्तयन्ती बहुविधं हृदयेन विदूयता । बलाबलं च मन्त्राणां ब्राह्मणस्य च वाग्वलम्‌,दोष॑ं परिहरन्ती च पितुश्नारित्रयरक्षिणी । कथं नु सुकृतं मे स्यान्नापराधवती कथम्‌ “मैं अपने ऊपर आनेवाले सब प्रकारके दोषोंका निवारण करती हुई पिताकी दृष्टिमें अपने सदाचारकी रक्षा करती रहती थी। मैंने सोचा, क्या करूँ, जिससे मुझे पुण्य हो और मैं अपराधिनी न होऊँ। यह सोचकर मैंने मन-ही-मन उन ब्राह्मणदेवताको नमस्कार किया और उस मन्त्रको पाकर कौतूहल तथा अविवेकके कारण मैंने उसका प्रयोग आरम्भ कर दिया। उसका परिणाम यह हुआ कि कन्यावस्थामें ही मुझे भगवान्‌ सूर्यदेवका संयोग प्राप्त हुआ

cintayantī bahuvidhaṁ hṛdayena vidūyatā | balābalaṁ ca mantrāṇāṁ brāhmaṇasya ca vāgvalam, doṣaṁ pariharanti ca pituḥ snāritraya-rakṣiṇī | kathaṁ nu sukṛtaṁ me syān nāparādhavatī katham ||

వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—హృదయం దుఃఖంతో దహించుచుండగా ఆమె అనేక విధములుగా ఆలోచించెను. మంత్రాల బలాబలమును, బ్రాహ్మణుని వాక్కు ప్రభావమును పరిశీలించి, ఏ దోషమూ తనపై పడకుండ చూడుచు, తండ్రి దృష్టిలో తన సదాచారమును కాపాడుకొనుచు ఆమె ఇలా తలంచెను—“నాకు పుణ్యం ఎలా కలుగును? నేను నిందనీయురాలిని కాకుండ ఎలా ఉండగలను?”
