World-benefiting action (lokakārya) performed in accordance with dharma leads to a higher consummation—returning to one’s proper state—and grants rare spiritual privilege (darśana) that is portrayed as exceedingly difficult to attain, even for exalted beings like Brahmā.
Bhīṣma, in his instruction during Śānti Parva, describes the outcome of certain righteous agents: after completing their appointed service for the world, they depart from that role and re-enter their own essential condition; he emphasizes the extraordinary nature of the vision being spoken of by stating it is not obtained even by Brahmā.
