जनक उवाच कि श्रेय: का गतिर्ब्रह्मन्‌ कि कृतं न विनश्यति । क्व गतो न निवर्तेत तन्मे ब्रूहि महामते,जनक बोले--ब्रह्मन! श्रेयका साधन क्या है? उत्तम गति कौन-सी है? कौन-सा कर्म नष्ट नहीं होता तथा कहाँ गया हुआ जीव फिर इस संसारमें नहीं लौटता है? महामते! मेरे इन प्रश्नोंका समाधान कीजिये

Janaka uvāca: kiṁ śreyaḥ? kā gatir brahman? kiṁ kṛtaṁ na vinaśyati? kva gato na nivarteta? tan me brūhi mahāmate.

జనకుడు పలికెను—ఓ బ్రాహ్మణా! శ్రేయస్సుకు సాధనం ఏమిటి? పరమ గతి ఏది? చేసిన ఏ కర్మ నశించదు? మరియు జీవుడు ఏ స్థితికి చేరితే మళ్లీ ఈ లోకానికి తిరిగి రాడు? ఓ మహామతీ, నాకు చెప్పుము।
