यत्‌ तु निश्रेयसं सम्यक्‌ तच्चैवासंशयात्मकम्‌

yat tu niśreyasaṃ samyak tac caivāsaṃśayātmakam | suhṛdām anugrahaḥ śatrubhāva-dhāriṇāṃ duṣṭānāṃ daṇḍanaṃ tathā dharmārtha-kāma-saṃgrahaś ca—idaṃ manīṣiṇaḥ śreya ity āhuḥ ||

యది నిజంగా పరమ మంగళాన్ని కలిగించేదో, అది స్వభావతః సందేహరహితం. సుహృదులపై అనుగ్రహం చూపడం, శత్రుభావం కలిగిన దుష్టులను శిక్షించడం, అలాగే ధర్మం, అర్థం, కామం అనే త్రివర్గాన్ని సముపార్జించడం—ఇదే జ్ఞానులు ‘శ్రేయస్సు’ అని అంటారు.
