This line is a colophon rather than a teaching verse: it signals the completion of a chapter in the Mokṣa-dharma portion of Śānti Parvan, titled “Jvarotpatti” (the origin of fever). Its function is to frame and authenticate the transmission of the discourse within the epic’s didactic structure.
The text is closing a chapter: it identifies the work (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Śānti Parvan), the subsection (Mokṣa-dharma), and the chapter title (“Jvarotpatti”), along with the chapter number (283). The speaker tag ‘Bhīṣma said’ belongs to the surrounding dialogue context, though this particular line itself is a formal end-marker.
