उशनसः (शुक्रस्य) चरितम् — The Account of Uśanā (Śukra): Yoga, Grievance, and Pacification

न चापि मन्यसे राजन्नेष दोष: प्रसड्भत: । उद्योगादेव धर्मज्ञा: कालेनैव गमिष्यथ,तुम जो ऐसा मानते हो कि ऐश्वर्य दोषकारक होता है, क्योंकि वह आसक्तिका हेतु होनेके कारण मोक्षका प्रतिबन्धक है तो तुम्हारी यह मान्यता ठीक नहीं है; क्योंकि तुम सब लोग धर्मके ज्ञाता हो। स्वयं ही उद्योग करके शम, दम आदि साधनोंद्वारा कुछ ही कालमें मोक्ष प्राप्त कर सकते हो

na cāpi manyase rājann eṣa doṣaḥ prasaṅgataḥ | udyogād eva dharmajñāḥ kālenaiva gamiṣyatha ||

భీష్ముడు పలికెను—రాజా, ఐశ్వర్యం స్వభావతః దోషమే అని, అది ఆసక్తికి కారణమవుతుందనే కారణంతో మాత్రమే, నీవు అనుకోకూడదు. ఆ నిర్ణయం సరికాదు. నీవు ధర్మజ్ఞుడవు; స్వయంకృషితో, కాలక్రమేణ, నీవు పరమశ్రేయస్సు—మోక్షం—వైపు సాగగలవు.
