Householder Primacy and the Royal Duty of Punishment

anissṛṣṭāni guruṇā phalāni manujarṣabha | bhakṣitāni mahārāja tatra māṃ śādhi mā ciram ||

Educational Q&A

Even small acts of appropriation—taking something not explicitly permitted—violate dharma. Ethical living includes restraint, respect for authority/elders, and readiness to accept correction without excuses.

Vyāsa addresses a king and confesses that he ate fruits from an elder’s garden without being given permission. He asks for immediate punishment/correction, emphasizing prompt accountability.
