श्रिया विहीनमासीनमक्षो भ्यामिव सागरम्‌ | भवाभवज्ञं भूतानामित्युवाच पुरंदर:

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | śriyā vihīnam āsīnam akṣobhyām iva sāgaram | bhavābhavajñaṃ bhūtānām ity uvāca purandaraḥ ||

Translation

ఒకప్పుడు దైత్యరాజు నముచికి రాజలక్ష్మి దూరమైనా, అతడు క్షోభరహితుడై—కదలని మహాసముద్రంలా—కూర్చుండెను; ఎందుకంటే కాలప్రవాహంలో ప్రాణుల అభ్యుదయ-పరాభవాల తత్త్వాన్ని అతడు తెలిసినవాడు. అప్పుడు దేవరాజు పురందరుడు (ఇంద్రుడు) అతని దగ్గరకు వెళ్లి ఈ విధంగా పలికెను.
