भीष्म उवाच एवमुक्तस्तु दैत्येन्द्रो बलिरिन्द्रेण भारत । जगाम दक्षिणामाशामुदीची तु पुरंदर:,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--भारत! इन्द्रके ऐसा कहनेपर दैत्यराज बलि दक्षिणदिशाको चले गये और स्वयं इन्द्र उत्तरदिशाको

bhīṣma uvāca evam uktaḥ tu daityendro balir indreṇa bhārata | jagāma dakṣiṇām āśām udīcī tu puraṃdaraḥ ||

భీష్ముడు పలికెను—ఓ భారతా! ఇంద్రుడు ఇలా చెప్పిన తరువాత దైత్యేంద్రుడు బలి దక్షిణ దిశకు వెళ్లెను; పురందరుడైన ఇంద్రుడు తానే ఉత్తర దిశకు వెళ్లెను.
