स तु देहाद्‌ यथा देहं त्यक्त्वान्यं प्रतिपद्यते । तथान्यं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि भूतग्रामं स्वकर्मजम्‌,वह जीवात्मा जिस प्रकार एक शरीर छोड़कर दूसरा शरीर ग्रहण करता है तथा अपने कर्मोसे उत्पन्न हुआ प्राणिसमुदाय जिस प्रकार अन्य देह धारण करता है, वह सब मैं तुम्हें बतलाता हूँ

sa tu dehād yathā dehaṁ tyaktvānyaṁ pratipadyate | tathānyaṁ sampravakṣyāmi bhūtagrāmaṁ svakarmajam ||

భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు—దేహధారి ఆత్మ ఒక దేహాన్ని విడిచి మరొక దేహాన్ని పొందునట్లే, స్వకర్మజమైన జీవసమూహం ఏ విధంగా మరొక దేహాన్ని ధరిస్తుందో నేను నీకు వివరించెదను।
