स्वाध्यायमग्निसंस्कारमप्रमत्तो$नुपालय । सत्यं दमं च दानं च स्पर्थिष्ठा मा च केनचित्,“आप सावधान होकर स्वाध्याय, अन्निहोत्र, सत्य, इन्द्रियसंयम तथा दानधर्मका पालन कीजिये। किसीके साथ स्पर्धा न कीजिये
svādhyāyam agnisaṃskāram apramatto'nupālaya | satyaṃ damaṃ ca dānaṃ ca spardhiṣṭhā mā ca kenacit ||
భీష్ముడు పలికెను—జాగ్రత్తగా స్వాధ్యాయం, అగ్నిసంస్కారం (అగ్నిహోత్రాది), సత్యం, ఇంద్రియనిగ్రహం, దానం—ఇవన్నీ నిత్యం ఆచరించు. ఎవ్వరితోనూ పోటీ పడకు.
