निशम्य दानवा: सर्वे हृष्टा: समभिदुद्रुवु: । भयानक कर्म करनेकी इच्छासे वैसा ही रूप धारण करनेवाले रुद्रदेवको देखकर समस्त दानव हर्ष और उत्साहमें भरकर उनके ऊपर टूट पड़े
niśamya dānavāḥ sarve hṛṣṭāḥ samabhidudruvuḥ | bhayānaka-karma-karaṇecchayā tathaiva rūpaṃ dhārayantaṃ rudradevaṃ dṛṣṭvā samastā dānavā harṣotsāhena pūritāḥ tasyaivopari prapetuḥ |
భీష్ముడు పలికెను— ఇది విని దానవులందరూ హర్షంతో కలిసి పరుగెత్తిరి. భయంకర కార్యం చేయాలనే సంకల్పంతో తగిన రూపం ధరించిన రుద్రుని చూచి, వారు ఉత్సాహోల్లాసాలతో నిండిపోయి యుద్ధంలో అతనిపై దూకిరి.
