संधेयासंधेय-पुरुषनिर्णयः (Criteria for Allies and Non-Allies) — with the opening of the Gautama narrative
इति श्रीमहाभारते शान्तिपर्वणि आपद्धर्मपर्वणि तपः:प्रशंसायामेकषष्ट्यधिकशततमो<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi āpaddharmaparvaṇi tapaḥ-praśaṃsāyām ekaṣaṣṭy-adhika-śatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
ఇట్లు శ్రీమహాభారత శాంతిపర్వమునందలి ఆపద్ధర్మపర్వములో తపఃప్రశంసా విషయమైన నూట అరవై ఒకటవ అధ్యాయము సమాప్తమగును.
भीष्म उवाच
This line functions as a colophon indicating that the chapter’s theme is the praise of tapas—disciplined austerity and self-restraint—presented within Āpaddharma, where ethical choices are examined under pressure and hardship.
Rather than advancing the story, the verse marks the formal close of a chapter in the Śānti Parvan, identifying its placement (Āpaddharma section) and its subject (tapas-praśaṃsā).
