भीष्म उवाच अत्र ते वर्तयिष्यामि नीतिमापत्सु भारत । उत्सृज्यापि घृणां काले यथा वर्तेत भूमिप:

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | atra te vartayiṣyāmi nītim āpatsu bhārata | utsṛjyāpi ghṛṇāṃ kāle yathā varteta bhūmipaḥ ||

Translation

భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు— ఓ భారతా! ఆపద్కాలంలో అనుసరించవలసిన నీతిని నేను నీకు వివరిస్తాను—కాలావసరం వచ్చినప్పుడు రాజు కరుణను కూడా పక్కనబెట్టి, సమయోచితమైన దృఢనిశ్చయంతో ఎలా ప్రవర్తించాలో.
