Draupadī’s Exhortation on Rājadharma and Daṇḍa (द्रौपद्याः राजधर्मोपदेशः)
यजतां विविधैर्यज्जै: समृद्धैराप्तदक्षिणै: । वनवासकृतं दु:ःखं भविष्यति सुखाय व:,राजन! द्वैतवनमें ये सभी भाई जब आपके साथ सर्दी-गर्मी और आँधी-पानीका कष्ट भोग रहे थे, उन दिनों आपने इन्हें धैर्य देते हुए कहा था--'शत्रुओंका दमन करनेवाले वीर बन्धुओ! विजयकी इच्छावाले हमलोग युद्धमें दुर्योधनको मारकर रथियोंको रथहीन करके बड़े-बड़े हाथियोंका वध कर डालेंगे और घुड़सवारसहित रथोंसे इस पृथ्वीको पाट देंगे। तत्पश्चात् सम्पूर्ण भोगोंसे सम्पन्न वसुधाका उपभोग करेंगे। उस समय पर्याप्त दान- दक्षिणावाले नाना प्रकारके समृद्धिशाली यज्ञोंके द्वारा भगवान्की आराधनामें लगे रहनेसे तुमलोगोंका यह वनवासजनित दुःख सुखरूपमें परिणत हो जायगा।' धर्मात्माओंमें श्रेष्ठ! वीर महाराज! पहले द्वैतवनमें इन भाइयोंसे स्वयं ही ऐसी बातें कहकर आज क्यों आप फिर हमलोगोंका दिल तोड़ रहे हैं
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
yajatāṁ vividhair yajñaiḥ samṛddhair āptadakṣiṇaiḥ |
vanavāsakṛtaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhaviṣyati sukhāya vaḥ, rājan ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “O King, by engaging in many kinds of prosperous sacrifices, duly completed with the prescribed gifts, the sorrow born of your forest-exile will, for you all, be transformed into happiness.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links endurance of hardship with a dharmic future: suffering from exile is not final, and it can be transmuted into well-being through righteous action—here symbolized by properly performed yajñas accompanied by due dakṣiṇā (ethical completeness, generosity, and social-religious responsibility).
Vaiśampāyana reports a consoling assurance addressed to a king: despite the pain caused by forest-dwelling, the time will come when, through prosperous and properly concluded sacrifices, that exile-born sorrow will turn into happiness—framing the present distress within a future of restored order and dharmic prosperity.
