संस्तवैर्वा धनौधैर्वा नाहं शक्‍्य: पुनस्त्वया । नह्ामित्रे वशं यान्ति प्राज्ञा निष्कारणं सखे,'भैया! तुम वास्तवमें बड़े साधु हो। यह बात मैंने तुम्हारे विषयमें सुन रक्खी है। उससे मुझे प्रसन्नता भी है; परंतु मैं तुमपर विश्वास नहीं कर सकता। तुम मेरी कितनी ही स्तुति क्यों न करो। मेरे लिये कितनी ही धनराशि क्‍यों न लुटा दो; परंतु अब मैं तुम्हारे साथ मिल नहीं सकता। सखे! बुद्धिमान्‌ एवं विद्वान्‌ पुरुष बिना किसी विशेष कारणके अपने शत्रुके वशमें नहीं जाते

saṁstavair vā dhanaughair vā nāhaṁ śakyaḥ punas tvayā | nāham mitre vaśaṁ yānti prājñā niṣkāraṇaṁ sakhe ||

లోమశుడు అన్నాడు— “పొగడ్తలతో గానీ, ధనరాశులతో గానీ నీవు నన్ను మళ్లీ వశపరచలేవు. సఖా, నేను మళ్లీ నీ అధీనంలోకి రాను. బుద్ధిమంతులు బలమైన కారణం లేకుండా శత్రువు వశంలోకి వెళ్లరు.”
