Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances

Educational Q&A

Dharma is strengthened through disciplined conduct: non-violence toward all beings, truthfulness in speech, and steadfast observance of vows, expressed here through a restrained livelihood that avoids harm (living on naturally fallen fruits).

Bhishma describes a person who reforms his life: he renounces harming creatures, commits to truthful speech, keeps his vow firmly, and sustains himself at set times only on fruits that have fallen naturally, indicating an ascetic, ethically careful mode of living.
