स्वकर्मणा हतं हन्ति हत एव स हन्यते । तेषु यः: समयं कश्रिद्‌ कुर्वीत हतबुद्धिषु

svakarmaṇā hataṃ hanti hata eva sa hanyate | teṣu yaḥ samayaṃ kaścid kurvīta hatabuddhiṣu ||

భీష్ముడు పలికెను—మనిషి తన కర్మల చేతనే ముందే దెబ్బతిన్నవాడై ఉంటాడు; అతనిని చంపేవాడు దెబ్బతిన్నవానినే చంపుతాడు, మరియు అతడూ దెబ్బతిన్నవాడై చంపబడతాడు. కావున బుద్ధి నశించినవారిలో ఎవడు సంధి గాని సమాధానం గాని చేయ ప్రయత్నించునో, వాడు నిజమైన వివేకం లేనివాడే.
