नआऔका-<> 7 जल चतुथों5 ध्याय: कृपाचार्यका दुर्योधनको संधिके लिये समझाना संजय उवाच पतितान् रथनीडांश्व रथांश्वापि महात्मनाम् रणे च निहतान् नागान् दृष्टवा पत्तींश्ष मारिष
sañjaya uvāca | patitān rathanīḍāṁś ca rathāṁś cāpi mahātmanām | raṇe ca nihatān nāgān dṛṣṭvā pattīṁś ca māriṣa ||
సంజయుడు పలికెను— పూజ్య రాజా! ఆ సమయంలో రణభూమిలో మహాత్మ వీరుల రథాలు, వాటి ఆసనస్థానాలు విరిగి పడివున్నాయి; సవారులతో కూడిన గజాలు, పాదసైనికులు యుద్ధంలో హతులయ్యారు. ఆ యుద్ధస్థలం రుద్రుని క్రీడాభూమిలా, శ్మశానసమానంగా అత్యంత భయంకరంగా కనిపించింది; లక్షలాది రాజుల జాడే మాయమైనట్లు అనిపించింది. ఇవన్నీ చూచి మీ కుమారుడు దుర్యోధనుడు శోకంలో మునిగి యుద్ధం నుండి ముఖం తిప్పాడు. కుంతీపుత్ర అర్జునుని పరాక్రమాన్ని చూసి సమస్త సేనలు భయంతో వణికిపోయి, ఘోర దుఃఖంలో చింతామగ్నమయ్యాయి. కలవరపడుతున్న సైనికుల గట్టిన ఆర్తనాదాన్ని విని, రాజచిహ్నాలైన ధ్వజాలు యుద్ధభూమిలో ఛిద్రమై చెల్లాచెదురై ఉన్నట్లు చూసి, వృద్ధుడు, సుశీలుడు, తేజస్వి అయిన కృపాచార్యుని హృదయం కరుణతో కదిలింది. భరతవంశీయ రాజా! ఆయన సలహాలో అత్యంత నిపుణుడు. దుర్యోధనుని సమీపించి అతని దైన్యాన్ని చూచి ఇలా పలికెను—
