Kṛpa’s Counsel to Duryodhana
tataḥ pravavṛte yuddhaṃ punar eva sudāruṇam | tāvakānāṃ pareṣāṃ ca devāsura-raṇopamam ||
The verse highlights the recurring, self-perpetuating nature of warfare: even after pauses, conflict reignites with terrifying intensity. By likening it to the devas–asuras war, it frames the struggle as vast and consuming, warning how collective passions and rival claims can repeatedly override restraint and compassion.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the fighting has resumed once more, becoming extremely fierce. The armies on both sides surge back into combat, and the scene is compared to the mythic battlefield of gods and demons to convey scale and ferocity.
