शल्यपरिघातः (Śalya Under Encirclement) — Mahābhārata, Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 12
tadanīkam abhiprekṣya tatas te pāṇḍunandanāḥ
The verse highlights disciplined perception before action: leaders and warriors first assess the opposing formation carefully, implying that righteous conduct in war includes awareness, restraint, and deliberate decision-making rather than impulsive violence.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Pāṇḍavas, after observing the enemy’s battle-array, proceed to their next step—setting up the transition from mere sight of the formation to the ensuing tactical or martial response.
