Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical ideal of gratitude and the kingly duty of supporting dharmic rites: prosperity and merit are framed as arising from a patron’s favor, and that favor is expressed through properly conducted sacrifices and generous dakṣiṇā to officiants.

Sanjaya reports a statement of acknowledgment: the speaker credits another’s grace/support for enabling the performance of many major yajñas with abundant gifts, emphasizing past prosperity and religious accomplishment amid the grim context of the Sauptika Parva.
