Vaiśampāyana said: All the Magadhas trembled in fear, and even the women miscarried. For the dreadful uproar that arose from Bhīmasena’s roaring and Jarāsandha’s cries—while Jarāsandha was being crushed in the grapple—terrified all living beings.

The verse highlights the far-reaching impact of violent conflict: the struggle of great warriors does not remain private but spreads fear and harm to ordinary people, underscoring an ethical awareness of collateral suffering even in ‘heroic’ contests.
During Bhīma’s grappling fight with Jarāsandha, the combined roar of Bhīma and the cries of Jarāsandha create a terrifying din. Hearing it, the inhabitants of Magadha tremble; the women are so shocked that miscarriages occur.
