दुर्वाससा पायसोच्छिष्टलिप्ते यच्चाप्युक्ते तच्च सस्मार वाक्यम्‌ | स चिन्तयन्नन्धकवृष्णिनाशं कुरुक्षयं चैव महानुभाव:,जूठी खीरको शरीरमें लगानेके समय दुर्वासाने जो बात कही थी उसका भी उन्हें स्मरण हो आया। फिर वे महानुभाव श्रीकृष्ण अन्धक, वृष्णि और कुरुकुलके विनाशकी बात सोचने लगे

durvāsasā pāyasocchiṣṭalipte yaccāpyukte tacca sasmāra vākyam | sa cintayann andhakavṛṣṇināśaṃ kurukṣayaṃ caiva mahānubhāvaḥ ||

వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను— పాయస అవశేషాలు శరీరంపై పూయబడిన వేళ దుర్వాసుడు పలికిన మాటలు కూడా ఆయనకు స్మరణకు వచ్చాయి. అప్పుడు మహానుభావుడు శ్రీకృష్ణుడు అంధకులు, వృష్ణులు నశించబోవుటను, అలాగే కురు వంశక్షయాన్ని గాఢంగా ఆలోచించసాగాడు—ఋషివాక్యానికి బద్ధమైన చిన్న సంఘటన కూడా ఎంత విస్తారమైన నైతిక, చారిత్రక ఫలితాలుగా విస్తరించగలదో గ్రహిస్తూ.
