तदनन्तर अस्त्रसमूहोंके प्रहारसे भरा हुआ वह युद्धस्थल ऐसा प्रतीत होने लगा, मानो वहाँ किरणोंका जाल बिछ गया हो। कर्ण और अर्जुनने अपने बाणसमूहोंकी वर्षासे आकाशमें तिलभर भी अवकाश नहीं रहने दिया ।। तद् बाणजालैकमयं महान्तं सर्वेडत्रसन् कुरव: सोमकाश्न | नान्यत् किंचिद् ददृशु: सम्पतद् वै बाणान्धकारे तुमुलेडतिमात्रम्,वहाँ बाणोंका एक महाजाल-सा बना हुआ देखकर कौरव और सोमक सभी भयसे थर्रा उठे। उस अत्यन्त घोर बाणान्धकारमें उन्हें दूसरा कुछ भी गिरता नहीं दिखायी देता था
tad-anantaraṃ bāṇa-jālaika-mayaṃ mahāntaṃ sarve 'drasan kuravaḥ somakāś ca | nānyat kiṃcid dadṛśuḥ sampatad vai bāṇāndhakāre tumule 'timātram ||
ఆ తరువాత అస్త్రసమూహాల ప్రహారాలతో నిండిన ఆ యుద్ధభూమి, అక్కడ కిరణజాలం పరచినట్లుగా కనిపించెను. కర్ణుడు, అర్జునుడు తమ శరవర్షతో ఆకాశంలో తిలమాత్రమూ ఖాళీ లేకుండా చేసిరి. బాణాల మహాజాలం ఒక్కటిగా ఏర్పడినదాన్ని చూసి కౌరవులు, సోమకులు అందరూ భయంతో వణికిరి. ఆ అత్యంత ఘోరమైన, తుములమైన బాణాంధకారంలో వారికి మరేదీ పడుతున్నట్లు కనబడలేదు.
