Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary martial excellence becomes a public, even cosmic, spectacle: celestial beings rejoice at prowess, while human allies respond with honor. Ethically, it underscores the Kṣatriya ideal of recognizing valor—yet it also hints at the Mahābhārata’s tension that admiration for skill does not by itself validate the cause for which that skill is used.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, upon witnessing Karṇa’s swift and spirited performance on the battlefield, the gods along with Siddhas and Cāraṇas are delighted; thereafter the Kaurava great archers pay honor to Karṇa as the foremost among men.
