वदनै: पश्य संछज्ञां महीं शोणितकर्दमाम् । “देखो, चन्द्रमा और नक्षत्रोंके समान कान्तिमान्, मनोहर कुण्डलोंसे विभूषित तथा दाढ़ी-मूँछसे युक्त वीरोंके आभूषणभूषित मुखोंसे रणभूमि अत्यन्त आच्छादित हो गयी है और इसपर रक्तकी कीच जम गयी है
vadanaiḥ paśya sañchannāṃ mahīṃ śoṇita-kardamām |
సంజయుడు అన్నాడు—చూడుము, భూమి రక్తపు బురదగా మారింది; అంతటా ముఖాలతో కప్పబడింది. చంద్ర-నక్షత్రాల వలె కాంతిమంతమైన, మనోహర కుండలాలతో అలంకరించబడిన, గడ్డం-మీసాలు గల వీరుల ఆభరణభూషిత ముఖాలు యుద్ధభూమిని నింపి ఉన్నాయి—యుద్ధవిధ్వంసానికి ఘోర సాక్ష్యంగా।
