संजय उवाच राजन पूर्वनिमित्तानि धर्मिष्ठानि विचिन्तय,संजयने कहा--राजन्! पूर्वकालमें आपने जो चद्यूतक्रीडा आदि धर्मसंगत कारण उपस्थित किये थे, उन्हें याद तो कीजिये। जो मनुष्य बीती हुई बातके लिये पीछे चिन्ता करता है, उसका वह कार्य तो सिद्ध होता नहीं, केवल चिन्ता करनेसे वह स्वयं नष्ट हो जाता है
sañjaya uvāca | rājan pūrvanimittāni dharmiṣṭhāni vicintaya | yo hi bhūtaprakāśe 'rthe paścāc cintayate naraḥ | tasya tat karma naiva syāt cintayā caiva naśyati ||
సంజయుడు అన్నాడు—రాజా, మీరు ఒకప్పుడు ధర్మసమ్మతమని చెప్పిన పూర్వ కారణాలను తలచి విచారించండి. గతించిపోయిన కార్యం గురించి తరువాత చింతించే మనిషికి అది మళ్లీ సిద్ధమవదు, మారదు కూడా; ఆ చింతతో అతడే నశిస్తాడు.
