Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined mastery: swift movement (lāghava) invites an equally measured response from an expert. In the ethical frame of the epic’s war, it underscores how skill and composure—here marked by Droṇa’s confident laughter—can decisively shape outcomes, even when the larger conflict remains morally fraught.

Sañjaya narrates that Droṇa observes an opponent’s quick agility and, smiling/laughing in confidence, releases eight well-made arrows in rapid succession, demonstrating superior archery and battlefield control.
