अश्मसारमरयी गुर्वी तपनीयविभूषिताम् । शरैरनेकसाहसैर्भारद्वाजो5च्छिनच्छितै:,वह गदा लोहेकी बनी हुई और भारी थी। उसमें सोने जड़े हुए थे, उसे उठी हुई कालरात्रिके समान अपने ऊपर गिरती देख द्रोणाचार्यने कई हजार पैने बाणोंसे उसके टुकड़े-टकड़े कर दिये
aśmasāramayī gurvī tapanīyavibhūṣitām | śarair anekasāhasair bhāradvājo 'cchinac chitaiḥ ||
సంజయుడు పలికెను—ఇనుమువలె కఠినమైన లోహంతో తయారై, అత్యంత భారమై, స్వర్ణాభరణాలతో అలంకృతమైన ఆ గదా కాలరాత్రిలా పై నుండి కూలిపడుతూ వచ్చింది. అది తనపై పడబోతున్నదని చూచి భారద్వాజపుత్రుడు ద్రోణాచార్యుడు అనేక వేల పదునైన బాణాలతో దానిని ముక్కలుగా చీల్చివేశాడు.
