गौरुडव्यूह-रचना तथा अर्धचन्द्र-प्रत्यव्यूह

विव्याध समरे राजन्‌ सर्वलोकस्य पश्यत: । राजन! तब सेनापति श्वेतने कुपित हो उस समरभूमिमें बहुत-से लौहमय बाणोंद्वारा सब लोगोंके देखते-देखते भीष्मको क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया ।। ६८ इ |। ततः प्रव्यथितो राजा भीष्म॑ दृष्टवा निवारितम्‌,शैतने सम्पूर्ण विश्वके विख्यात वीर भीष्मको युद्धमें आगे बढ़नेसे रोक दिया, यह देखकर राजा दुर्योधनके मनमें बड़ी व्यथा हुई। साथ ही आपकी सेनामें सब लोगोंपर महान्‌ भय छा गया

vivyādha samare rājan sarvalokasya paśyataḥ |

ఓ రాజా, సమరంలో అందరూ చూస్తుండగానే అతడు (శత్రువును) బాణాలతో ఛేదించాడు; యుద్ధంలో ఇలాంటి బహిరంగ ప్రహారం కేవలం వ్యక్తిగత వీరత్వం కాదు—సేనల ధైర్యం, భయం, యుద్ధవాతావరణాన్ని కూడా మలుస్తుంది.
