Educational Q&A

Even in conflict, a noble warrior-leader acknowledges excellence where it appears. Praising skill (lāghava) reflects discernment and fairness—valuing merit rather than being blinded by factional hostility.

In Sañjaya’s battlefield narration, an impressive feat of agility or swift execution has just occurred. Bhīṣma—identified as the son of Śāntanu—responds by honoring that performance, signaling approval and recognition within the ongoing war context.
