वैशम्पायन उवाच
In crisis and bereavement, dharmic response begins with truthful recognition of suffering and turning to the rightful protector and guide. The verse sets up an ethic of seeking refuge in wisdom and divine support (here, Kṛṣṇa) rather than collapsing into despair.
Kuntī rises, and Subhadrā, overwhelmed by sorrow, sees her brother Kṛṣṇa and cries out, beginning an appeal. This introduces the episode in which the family seeks Kṛṣṇa’s help concerning the newborn heir (Parīkṣit) who appears lifeless.
