तेषामन्ये पंक्तिदूषास्तथान्ये पंक्तिपावना: । अपाक्तेयास्तु ये राजन्‌ कीर्तयिष्यामि तान्‌ शृणु,ब्राह्मणोंमें कुछ तो पंक्तिदूषक होते हैं और कुछ पंक्तिपावन। राजन! पहले पंक्तिदूषक ब्राह्मणोंका वर्णन करूँगा, सुनो

teṣām anye paṅktidūṣās tathānye paṅktipāvanāḥ | apākteyās tu ye rājan kīrtayiṣyāmi tān śṛṇu ||

భీష్ముడు పలికెను—వారిలో కొందరు పంక్తిదూషకులు, మరికొందరు పంక్తిపావనులు. ఓ రాజా! పంక్తిలో కూర్చోవడానికి అర్హులు కానివారిని (అపాంక్తేయులను) నేను వివరిస్తాను—విను।
