The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद् यत् सुकृतं तस्य भारत
bhīṣma uvāca |
yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |
etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |
భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు—ఓ భరతవంశానందనా! జీవుడు ఏ రాత్రి జన్మిస్తాడో, ఏ రాత్రి నశిస్తాడో—ఆ రెండు రాత్రుల మధ్యకాలంలో అతడు జీవితమంతా చేసిన ఏ ఏ పుణ్యకర్మలైనా, యజ్ఞం, దానం, తపస్సు ద్వారా సంపాదించినదంతా—ప్రతిజ్ఞాభంగ పాపం వల్ల నశించిపోతుంది.
